Progranulin and diabetic kidney disease

چکیده
Materials and methods Case-control study. Cases were defined by the presence of T2D and CKD stages 3-5, evaluated by estimated GFR<60 mL/min, and controls were formed by patients with T2D and GFR>60mL/min (diabetic control group); and by individuals without T2D (non-diabetic control group). PGRN was determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in blood and urine samples after overnight fasting. The study groups were compared by ANOVA with Tukey or Kruskal-Wallis with Dunn tests for continuous and c2 test for categorical variables. The Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Hospital involved, and all subjects signed the informed consent.

Serum and Urinary Progranulin in Diabetic Kidney Disease
Progranulin has been recognized as an adipokine related to obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). There are scarce data regarding progranulin and kidney disease, but there are some data linking diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and increased progranulin levels. We aimed to better describe the relationship between serum and urinary progranulin levels and DKD in T2DM. This i...
متن کاملSerum Levels of Progranulin Are Closely Associated with Microvascular Complication in Type 2 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE Progranulin (PGRN) was recently introduced as a novel marker of chronic inflammatory response in obesity and type 2 diabetes capable of directly affecting the insulin signaling pathway. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between PGRN and type 2 diabetics with microvascular complications. METHODS PGRN serum levels and glucose metabolism related substance were measured in...
متن کاملNon-albuminuric Diabetic Kidney Disease in Diabetic Patients: A Review
Introduction: The constantly increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes, probably due to obesity and sedentary life, has led to the increased incidence of macro- and microvascular diabetic complications such as nephropathy. Despite the prompt efforts to develop effective treatments for diabetes and slow the progression of its complications, it is still reported as the most common cause of chronic ...

W e thank Dr. Triebel (1) for his comments regarding our recent findings on circulating progranulin in relation to renal function. Concerning our data on progranulin in spot urine, the adipokine was quantified in samples of 29 sex-matched patients of each chronic kidney disease stage (N 5 145), which were randomly assigned using SPSS software version 18.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY). In these experiments...

R ichter et al. (1) report an association between serum levels of the adipokine progranulin and chronic kidney disease (CKD) and demonstrate higher progranulin levels with deteriorating renal function—the highest progranulin levels being observed in stage 5 of CKD. The authors conclude that impaired renal clearance might account for this association and that their results are compatible with th...
